Before Hordanso can improve your Google Maps ranking, you need a claimed and verified Google Business Profile. Here is how to set it up.
Step 1: Go to Google Business Profile Manager
- Go to business.google.com.
- Sign in with a Google account (Gmail). Use a permanent business Google account, not a personal one.
- Click Manage now.
Step 2: Find or Create Your Business Listing
If Your Business Already Exists on Google Maps
- Type your business name in the search box.
- If your business appears, click on it.
- Click Claim this business and then Manage now.
If Your Business is Not Listed
- Click Add your business to Google.
- Enter your business name and click Next.
- Select your business category (choose the most accurate one).
- Enter your business address (or select 'I deliver goods and services to my customers' if you are a service area business).
- Add your business phone number and website.
- Click Finish.
Step 3: Verify Your Business
Google requires you to prove you own the business. Verification methods vary:
- Postcard — Google mails a postcard with a code to your business address. Enter the code online. Takes 5–14 days.
- Phone or Text — receive a verification code by call or SMS to your business number. Immediate.
- Email — receive the code at your business email. Immediate.
- Video call — a Google representative verifies your location via video. Used for some business types.
- Instant verification — available if your business is already verified in Google Search Console.
Note: For Nigerian businesses, phone verification is the most common and fastest method. Make sure the phone number on your listing is currently active and reachable.
After Verification
- Add at least 10 high-quality photos
- Fill in all business details — hours, website, services, description
- Respond to any existing reviews
